Since its beginnings in 1981,  Footscray City Films has held a significant place in Australian social and educational history and is widely recognised for its initiatives, its standards of excellence, and as an instigator in many areas of Film and Television education.

For over thirty years Footscray City Films has helped hundreds of students achieve their artistic goals of becoming filmmakers and gaining work in the Australian Film Industry.

The great strength of the Film School lies in its ability to nurture and encourage strong relationships with students, the film and television industry and the community.

An essential focus of the Footscray ethos is the discovery of one’s self and what we share with others. Film-making is such a collaborative process that it encourages individuals to be supportive. It awakens a sense of community in all of us.

All three courses at Footscray City Films use the CUA Creative Arts & Culture Training Package

Our Nationally Recognised Training Programs and courses are based upon competency based training principles

Students are provided with hands on tuition in Short Film Production on up to 20 films per year using industry standard equipment and post production facilities, taking students from concept right through to the marketing of their films.

These full-time, year long courses are designed to introduce students to professional film video and multimedia production techniques where students learn by making their own individual films and crewing on fellow student productions throughout the year.

To complete the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media it takes three years. This includes one year of Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media, one year of Diploma of Screen and Media and one year in Certificate IV in Screen and Media.
